Hi, I'm Megan ("Meeg") Pincus Kajitani. I've been working as a writer, editor, educator and artist — in some form or another — for more than two decades.

I've worked in print journalism, book publishing and academia... as a staff writer, associate editor, illustrator, copywriter, teacher and university counselor. (Yes, you can say I'm a multi-passionate, Renaissance soul!)

My writing & editing can be found in newspapers, magazines and books, including The Huffington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Mothering Magazine, The Daring Book for Girls and more. I make art in the form of figure sculptures, illustrations and hand-decorated journals. And teaching has always been part of what I do and who I am, which these days I offer via a variety of workshops and classes.

Current Projects & Offerings

Non-Fiction Writing & Editing -- I write creative non-fiction, in the form of personal essays and books, and I accept a limited number of non-fiction book & resume editing projects each year.

I'm also now diving deeply into my first love, children's books, writing non-fiction stories of inspiring changemakers (under the easy-to-pronounce pen name, Meeg Pincus). See my children's author website.

Workshops & Classes -- I'm currently offering a range of workshops & classes, all geared toward inspiring more meaningful living, including:

  •  Celebrating The Journey, workshops & groups honoring life transitions.
  • Humane Living, classes & talks inspiring daily choices that help people, animals & the planet.
  • Evolve Journaling, workshops encouraging writing for personal discovery, healing & transformation.

Art --  As a fine artist, I create clay figure sculptures, hand-decorated journals and ink/watercolor illustrations.

More About Me

On the education front, I'm a lifelong student and teacher. I earned an M.A. in Communication Arts (Media & Cultural Studies) from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, focusing on gender, race and class in American popular culture. I also completed Ph.D. coursework in Communication (Cultural Studies), and a Certificate in Training & Professional Development, at The University of California-San Diego (while teaching and counseling students there).

I'm trained in humane education, as a Certified Instructor for the non-profit HEART, with the Institute for Humane Education, and as a Certified World Peace Diet Facilitator. I also earned a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition through Cornell University/ The T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, and have been trained in various holistic healing modalities.

On the work front, I spent the first years of my career working full-time jobs as a newspaper staff writer, an associate editor at an educational publisher (where I also got to illustrate), and as a senior copywriter for a large corporation. I then went to graduate school and began my freelance career as a writer and editor, along with teaching classes and working as a career counselor for graduate students at The University of California.

On the home front, I gratefully reside in coastal Carlsbad, California (San Diego area) with my beloved husband and children. I enjoy performing arts (singing regularly with a 9-woman group) and all things natural & spiritual living. I can often be found chatting on the phone with friends (usually while doing dishes), or walking with them (the friends, not the dishes) on the beach. And I'm learning to meditate... slowly, very slowly.
